Handy Cross Runners is pleased to welcome your club members and supporters to our cross-country race in Bradenham Woods by kind permission of the National Trust.

Directions
From junction 4 on the M40 take the A4010 signposted towards Aylesbury. Turn right into Bradenham Woods Lane at the Red Lion. At the top of the lane turn left onto New Road, the parking is further along on the left. The post code is HP14 4UW.

Parking - please note this is different to previous years
Car parking is in the RAF visitor car park with a small amount of additional parking further along. The car park is fairly small so please car share, single occupancy cars may be turned away. Alternative car parking can be found in the National Trust car park or along the road in Bradenham. This is about a mile from the start. Please avoid using the residential streets in Naphill.

Start / Finish
The food and tent area is on a hard standing area within the RAF base. You won’t be able to peg tents or flags into the ground. Please bring weights if you wish to put these up. Toilets will be provided in this area should you need them. Any kit can be left at the finish area at your own risk. The start/finish is about 400m down into the woods, so please ensure you leave enough time to get to the start.

Race Administration
We will be using discs again this year. Please ensure that you record each of your runners’ finishing positions on your sheets and return the discs to us with the completed sheets.

Course
The course is the same as in previous years except you will come up the main track at the end, with the finish being further uphill than in previous years, making the course even harder! The course is roughly 5.7 miles in length. It is suitable for spikes but there are short sections where the paths are quite hard and stony.

Reading Roadrunners - Sunday 7th January at 11am

Reading Roadrunners will once again be hosting their event at Ashenbury Park, Tippings Lane, Woodley, Reading, RG5 4RX.

The course will be the same as in recent years - 2 laps mainly on open grassy ground, plus a trail through the woods. No huge hills, rivers or bogs but it will be strength-sapping in wet conditions. The course can get very muddy in winter, so a change of socks and shoes is highly advisable.

The total distance is around 5.2 miles, and there are opportunities for runners to see and support their friends and teammates as they pass each other in the various short two-way sections.

We do not have sole use of the park, and there may be dog walkers or other members of the public around the course.

The club tents/flags area will be near to the race start/finish.

All finishers will be handed a token. Please take this to your club reps.

Parking will be slightly different this year, and car-sharing is strongly advised. In the first instance free parking will be available at Willow Bank School, Duffield Road, Woodley, Reading, RG5 4RW, around 500m from the race venue. Once this is full, participants should use Headley Road Pay and Display Car Park, Headley Road, Woodley, Reading, RG5 4JA, where charges will apply (£1 per hour). This is around 1.2 miles from the race venue, so be sure to allow extra time to walk or jog to the start. Please do not park on local residential roads or the future of our event could be jeopardised.

Portable toilets and urinals will be available at the race venue. There are also public toilets in the Oakwood Centre, opposite Headley Road Car Park.

An external First Aid provider will be in attendance.

Refreshments will be located in the Ashenbury Park Car Park. Please bring your own cups and plates.

Good luck and enjoy!

Marlow Striders event details - 10th December 2023

Marlow Striders are looking forward to hosting a Cross Country event again this year. The course has changed significantly from last year and the event village and parking are in different locations, due to the main Henley Showground being waterlogged and damaged by another event earlier this season. We would encourage car-sharing wherever possible.

Date & Time: Sunday, 10th December. Race starts 11:00am. First arrivals welcome from 09:30

Address: Dairy Lane, Hambleden, Henley-on-Thames RG9 3AS

Parking: On-field free parking is available at the venue, a short walk to the start. On arrival, please proceed up Dairy Lane (we will be using a different car park than last year) where we will have marshals to direct you into the field. Please drive SLOWLY (5 mph) on the fields to avoid damaging the ground, as we risk losing our damages deposit plus costs to repair.

Team Flags/Tents: There will be an area close the start/finish for team flags, gazebos/tents.

Toilets: There will be portaloos and a urinal, located much nearer the start/finish.

Course & Map See map here. Total distance approx. 10.3km = 6.4mi and 215m = 700ft elevation gain, on a mixture of hard & soft trails through woodlands. NOT suitable for spikes. GPX route is available here.

Course description The course consists of 2 loops, each approx. 5km. The course narrows very quickly after the start. The first loop is anti-clockwise on trails and into the woods. After 3.5k you turn left and head downhill towards the start/finish - turning right to start the 2nd loop in a clockwise direction. After 8km, you turn right along the same stretch of pathway for a fast downhill finish. The highest points on the course are after 3km and 7.5km and the final 2km is all downhill (promise!). This is a new course compared to last year and, unfortunately, “The Wall” (Strava segment) no longer features on the course this year!

Finishing tokens: Finishing tokens will be handed out to all finishers - please return these to your club reps.
Food and drink: We will be providing post-race food and hot drinks. There will be some water available too. Please bring your own plates and cups. All food is consumed at your own risk.

First aid: There will be first aiders in attendance, with a mobile post at the start/finish.

Dogs: Well-behaved dogs are welcome to spectate however must be on a lead at all times.

Ticks/Lyme Disease: A message from the landowner we are obliged to pass on: when running through woodlands, there is a risk of being bitten by ticks, etc and therefore wearing insect repellent containing DEET is advisable. Check for ticks and remove immediately. Visit https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/lyme-disease/ for more information.

Look forward to seeing you there!!
